Due to global conflicts across the globe, a variety of traditions and cultural norms are dying out associated with countries that are at War or decimated by War and that includes the heritage of textiles.
Textiles are an important part of global communities who rely on the textile trade for a living. Skills are normally passed down generationally but in the UK most garments are bought from factories or suppliers, and embroidered by machine.
Mothers/Fathers, and grandparents pass on these heritage skills to their children, to their grandchildren but in modern day society, this is becoming obsolete. Many communities are displaced and adopt other members into their communities as families., where they pass on these latent heritage skills.
Working with multinational and global communities, we would like to showcase the heritage of clothes and jewellery
To host a small cultural fashion show called Dressed to Impress - Cultural Dresses of the World, showcasing cultural attire of multicultural women and children from across the globe.
Each woman would also speak about the significance of her garments, a short story about the historical and cultural references to her dress/garment
Women will be dressed with Jewellery to match, with the traditional patterning of Mehndi , accompanied by traditional scarfs.
As the Biasan community is a private group, we can open it to the public at this time but it would be women only.
