Other Cinemas’ FREE Refugee Week Film programme.
17–23 JUNE
This year, Counterpoints Arts and Other Cinemas – two organisations who work across intersections of racial justice, migration, and climate – have collaborated on a film programme.
The programme, curated by Other Cinemas, consists of 6 shorts and 3 feature length films that explore the theme of “Our Home.”
The majority of these short films and feature length films can be watched globally for free either at home or used for a community screening! No need to get rights or licensing, we have arranged these for the duration of Refugee Week.

Schools Arts Trail. Week Long Event.
The Bradford Schools and Colleges of Sanctuary Arts Trail will be shown at a later date in the year.
This will now be shown online. Please look out for further updates to follow regarding dates/venue. -

A Day of Welcome.

This is an annual day of solidarity and learning in schools that aims to build a culture of welcome and understanding for people seeking sanctuary.
It’s designed to support teachers in kickstarting Refugee Week by providing free live events, resources and activities for teachers and pupils of all ages. Schools across the Bradford District will be getting involved this year. You can sign up for it here!

A Discussion with BIASAN.

Join Race Equality Network for a discussion with BIASAN.
We will be joined by Sue Balcomb, Rosemary Mupunga, Karim Aref and Halima Mahamet from BIASAN! The discussion aims to shed a light on the history of the organisation, their important work and what ‘Our Home’ means to them and the community of Bradford.

Beacon’s Walk of Welcome.

Beacon’s Annual Sponsored Walk of Welcome this year will be around Bradford and provides the opportunity to visit some of the inspiring places of welcome across the City.

Sanctuary Seekers Film Showing.

REN is working in collaboration with Bradford City of Sanctuary and director Tom Harmer to host a film screening of the The Sanctuary Seekers of Bradford at the University of Bradford. In the growing hostile environment for refugees and asylum seekers, the film aims to shed a light on Bradford's special position as a city of sanctuary for refugees and asylum seekers. The film screening will be followed up by a Q&A with individuals who have experience in working with refugee and asylum seekers. Refreshments will be provided.

Afternoon Session: 13.00To mark Refugee Week, UK for UNHCR is inviting members of the public to Cuppa Hope pop-up cafés across the UK to enjoy ‘Tea & Talks’ with refugees from around the world.
Bringing together refugees, supporters and tea lovers, we’re looking to start a new conversation about what it means to be forced to flee your home by listening to people’s stories. We would love for you to come along to our free Tea & Talks at Kunafa Tea Restaurant, Bradford.

Keighley Peace Meal.

The third Keighley Peace Meal will be held at Eastwood Primary School.
This year it is on an Invite Only basis.
It will bring together local community groups to celebrate Keighley as a home for Refugees and Asylum Seekers.
The event will feature singing, speeches and performances from students at Eastwood Community School as well as Refugee Students from Keighley College.

Celebrating pupil achievement and recognising excellent practice in schools, education settings and the community. This invite-only is being held by Bradford Council in partnership with Schools of Sanctuary at Valley Parade.

Time: 12:00–15:00Free entry, free entertainment and attractions (Peel Park Cafe will also be open with refreshments for sale)
A family friendly event in Peel Park, close to central Bradford. Live music, performance art, bubbles, face painting, bouncy castles, stalls, games, a make-your-own smoothie bike, free fruit and water, guest visits by emergency services, and lots of laughter. Many of the attractions are laid on by refugee and migrant community groups, and many others by local community organisations. A joyful and wonderful event. Everyone is welcome; there is no entry fee, and no charges for any attractions or entertainments at the event. Refugee Volunteer Taster Day.

Join us for lunch in celebration of Refugee Week for a volunteer taster session.
Meet our volunteers and staff in action from printing letterpress, weaving, gardening, and welcoming visitors in a heritage 1850s woollen mill museum, historical characters and behind the scenes museum work.
See if volunteering in a cultural setting might be for you.
A light buffet lunch is at 12pm by Brodies Catering, Bradford. Please RSVP using the link below.
